                                  Farm Programs Facilitator 

    Qualifications:             

    Education – Bachelor’s degree in History, Agriculture or Education. Related college credit, volunteer activities, internships and/or other professional experience may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.

    Personal Professional, enthusiastic, comfortable in public speaking settings, pleasant personality.  Work record must show reliability, initiative, tact and productivity.

     Knowledge and Ability – Must have basic understanding of agricultural history and the development of communities in northeastern Illinois.  Understanding of farming practices past and present and the impact of technology on agriculture is essential.  Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, including students, families and the general public. Interpretation of natural resources in formal and informal program settings. Excellent customer service skills. Willingess to work in a variety of weather conditions and flexibility to work nights and weekends as farm operations and programs demand. Must possess or be willing to obtain a valid State of Illinois driver’s license.

    Essential Functions Under the direction and supervision of the Manager of Farm Programs and Interpretive Services, the Farm Programs Facilitator shall complete his or her assigned duties to the best of his or her abilities, offering suggestions of better ways to accomplish tasks and be ever mindful of the best interests of the Park District and fellow employees. This position is part-time as defined within the Park District’s Personnel Practices Manual.  Generally described, this position averages fifteen hours per week on an annual basis.  This position requires extensive knowledge and ability to:

    §  Lead and present agriculture and historical programs and other visitor experiences for a variety of audiences

    §  Participate in program set-up and tear-down

    §  Attend program training sessions and develop proficiency in program content and concepts

    §  Greet program participants in a friendly and professional manner

    §  Relate agricultural, biological, historical, social, economic and other related concepts and content in an age-appropriate and engaging manner

    §  Teach in a variety of weather conditions

    §  Travel as needed to off-site venues for program delivery

    §  Facilitate casual visitor experiences at Primrose Farm

    §  Assist with livestock care as needed

    §  Greet and accommodate customers

    §  Assist Primrose Farm staff in the completion of their duties

    §  Maintain orderly, professional and safe workspaces

    §  Have a working knowledge of and ability to communicate and enforce

    §  Park District procedures, rules and policies

    §  Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of the Park District’s Safety Program

    Marginal Functions
