    Primrose Farm is situated on approximately 100 acres of farmland 45 miles west of Chicago in St. Charles, IL. Our specific mission is to show the impact of technology and social change on the lands and farm families of the Fox Valley. Because our site includes one of the original farmsteads established in the St. Charles area in the late 1830s, we discuss over 150 years of agricultural history. We also provide valuable recreation opportunities for the residents of the area.

    Job Summary – About the Role

    By working closely with your supervisor to assist with the operations of a historic working dairy farm; including animal care, site maintenance, and developing and facilitating educational and recreational programming for the public.

    Knowledge, Skills & Experience

    This position is well suited for someone with a friendly and positive personality who is productive and shows initiative, is an effective written and oral communicator, is reliable and safety-minded.

    A strong interest in agricultural science and interpretation and must be willing to continually increase knowledge of agricultural and farm operations and recreational programming. Work record that shows reliability, initiative, tact and productivity.

    Four-year degree in Education, Recreation or a related field is required. One to three years working with children and animals/livestock with some supervisory experience required. A valid Illinois State Driver’s License is required. Maintain current CPR/AED/First Aid Certification or obtain certification within six months of hire.


    Responsibilities

    Assist the Manager of Farm Programs and Interpretive Services in his/her responsibilities.

    Work outdoors, in a farm setting and in varying weather conditions, including inclement and severe weather.

    Lead weekend, weekday and evening educational and recreational programs at Primrose Farm.

    Assist in agricultural operations and provide livestock care as directed.

    Assist and lead Park District preschool and farm summer camp programs and activities.

    Develop and present programs to the public at Primrose Farm under the Manager of Farm Programs and Interpretive Services.

    Assist in the training of volunteers, interns and seasonal employees.

    Present short, mobile programs at appropriate places and times at Park District sites.

    Assist in any other interpretive or educational activities that may arise.

    Develop and program annual special events with an emphasis on farm life, education, animals and livestock.

    Assist with special events.


    Marginal Functions of the Position or Role

    Assist with maintenance and light construction duties as part of daily operations.

    Perform all other duties as assigned.
