    Coordinates the development and planning of the petting farm and animal exhibits.


    Position Schedule: Monday- Friday 7:00am-3:30pm; weekends as needed
    Salary: $26.14/hour to Commensurate

    Successful completion of a pre-employment background check, physical examination (if applicable) and drug screen are required prior to employment with the City of Cedar Rapids.Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills
    • Administers and expands on daily animal exhibit programming; ensures the facility is clean and safe for the public
    • Creates and builds partnerships for maintenance and programming
    • Hires, trains, and evaluates seasonal staff
    • Coordinates the development, preparation, and execution of special events
    • Maintains USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) licensing for the facility
    • Maintains the animal’s well-being; observes animals for signs of health problems or injuries and medicates animals as needed
    • Monitors budget and keeps expenditures within program budget boundaries; assists with budget planning
    • Purchases materials and supplies for the facility
    • Gives tours of the facility to the public
    • Ensures compliance of goals and visitor satisfaction expectations
    • Assists with programming events at other recreation locations
    • Performs related work as required
    Minimum qualifications & Requirements

    Required Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science, Biology, Agriculture or related field and 
    • Three to five years of experience working with livestock and/or animals or
    • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience
    • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
    • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population

    Required Licenses or Certifications

    • Valid U.S. Driver’s License

    • Animal food and feeding
    • Animal behavior
    • Electrical and water circulation systems
    • USDA licensing requirements

    • Work cooperatively and develop and maintain effective working relationships
    • Recognize animal health problems and properly medicate
    • Multitask and adapt to change quickly
