Coordinates the development and planning of the petting farm and animal exhibits.
Position Schedule: Monday- Friday 7:00am-3:30pm; weekends as needed
Salary: $26.14/hour to Commensurate
Successful completion of a pre-employment background check, physical examination (if applicable) and drug screen are required prior to employment with the City of Cedar Rapids.Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills
- Administers and expands on daily animal exhibit programming; ensures the facility is clean and safe for the public
- Creates and builds partnerships for maintenance and programming
- Hires, trains, and evaluates seasonal staff
- Coordinates the development, preparation, and execution of special events
- Maintains USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) licensing for the facility
- Maintains the animal’s well-being; observes animals for signs of health problems or injuries and medicates animals as needed
- Monitors budget and keeps expenditures within program budget boundaries; assists with budget planning
- Purchases materials and supplies for the facility
- Gives tours of the facility to the public
- Ensures compliance of goals and visitor satisfaction expectations
- Assists with programming events at other recreation locations
- Performs related work as required
Minimum qualifications & Requirements
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science, Biology, Agriculture or related field and
- Three to five years of experience working with livestock and/or animals or
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population
Required Licenses or Certifications
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License
