Summer interns are primarily being sought for historical interpretation an Day Camp Counselors. Both internships receive college credits through Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa. Historical Interpreter interns' schedule includes an average of 30 hours per week, May 21 – August 12, 2018 Generally 8:30 - 4:15 Monday through Saturday, 11:30 – 4:15 Sundays. This position involves explaining through demonstrations and interactions with the public the history and trends in agriculture and rural life in the Midwest. A majority of the time, this person will be working outdoors, while wearing clothing issued by Living History Farms that reflects the clothing of the time period. The intern will work at some combination of the following: historic Flynn Mansion, 1700 Ioway Farm, 1850 Pioneer Farm, 1900 Horse-Powered Farm, Tangen House, Elliot Millinery Shop, Advocate Printing Office, Walnut Hill Broomworks, and/or the Wallace Exhibit Center.
Day Camp Interns are scheduled 37-40 hours per week, May 21 – August 11, 2018, 8:15 - 4:45 daily, Monday through Friday, and 2 Saturdays- June 30 & August 11. You must really enjoy kids of all ages, as this position involves working with groups of day camp youth on a combination of crafts, activities, visits to historic areas, and games as the youth participate in a week-long themed history camp. Counselors and campers spend a majority of their time outdoors.
Both Positions are classified as temporary, part-time hourly, non-exempt, with hourly wage of $6.35 and receive six hours of college credit through Graceland University tuition free. In order to receive the credit, the intern must successfully complete all required internship assignments, including a group project. Fees associated with tuition paid by Living History Farms. Intern must pay for transfer of college transcript to his or her original school
