DESCRIPTION
The Farm Operations Supervisor manages the livestock program and collaborates with the program supervisor on agriculture interpretation at the farm. This position reports to the Farm Manager and supervises part-time staff, seasonal staff and volunteers.
DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all farm visitors.
• Research the regions agricultural history with the goal of enhancing the farm’s buildings, equipment, crop, and livestock offerings to farm visitors
• Oversee the livestock program including creating daily care protocols, maintaining animal records, coordinating with veterinarians
• Train staff and volunteers on animal care
• Stay current on animal care best practices and regulatory requirements for county and state.
• Educate visitors on livestock use and care
• Assist with agriculture curriculum development, and leading agriculture programs.
• Maintain indoor and outdoor animal areas including cleaning and repairing as needed
• Repairing/restoring farm artifacts for display as needed.
• Maintains farm supply inventory. Orders supplies as needed
• Act as manager on duty as needed.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS
• A bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, History, Animal Science, Museum Studies, Historical Administration or related field
• Five years of livestock experience including two years of supervisory experience
• Beekeeping experience or willingness to learn and comfortable with the realities of apiary work including possible stings and heavy lifting.
• Ability to spend entire day on feet doing farm work and lift 50lbs repeatedly
• The best candidates with have experience in historical interpretation and 4H club familiarity either as a participant or a leader
JOB STATUS Full time DEPARTMENT Fischer FSLA STATUS Exempt
SALARY $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 Salary/year
HOURS 40 hours per week including evenings and weekends, working at least one weekend day per week
