    Guest Engagement Interpreter/Part-time & Seasonal/$10.10 hr

    Department: 141 Operations-Daily Experience

    Principal Function: The Interpreter is responsible for learning and mastering content and interpretive methods in order to provide engaging experiences to the organization’s visitors as a costumed 1st-person and/or blue-shirt 3rd-person interpreter.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:

    1.    Interacts with the public using Opening Doors engaging techniques and facilitates hands-on activities.

    2.    Participates in all programs, as needed.

    3.    Conducts required post maintenance, as needed.

    4.    Participates in trainings and research as needed; periodically organizes and leads trainings.

    Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

    Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED);or three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience as an interpreter is desired. Previous experience working in the museum and/or acting industry is desired.

    • A working knowledge of the historical time periods that the organization represents is required.
    • An outgoing, cheerful and engaging personality is required.
    • Interpreters must enjoy working with the public.
    • Interpreters must demonstrate an aptitude or capability for working with a variety of materials, tools, and techniques, i.e. historic trades.
    • Interpreters are required to work with both adult and youth volunteers in a positive manner.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is exposed to working in wet or humid conditions (non-weather), and outdoor weather conditions. The employee will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts, in high, precarious places, near fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold (non-weather), extreme heat (non-weather), risk of electrical shock, and work with explosives. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

    Conner Prairie is generally open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday, this position will be required to work beyond these hours and when open for special events.
